Fundamental principles of technology

A technology is a combination of components or parts that come together to achieve a purpose. The laser printer uses a computer-controlled laser to "write" images on the copier's drum. Then the particles of the toner stick to the drum and then melt on the paper.

A technology consists of building blocks that are in turn technologies, and this is repeated until reaching the elementary components.

All technology takes advantage or exploits some effect or phenomenon
If you examine a technology you will always find that it uses a phenomenon. Alcohol distillation is based on the phenomenon that alcohol evaporates at a lower temperature than water. The hammer depends on the phenomenon of impulse transmission from a moving object (the hammer) to a static object (the nail).

Technologies can be very simple or very complicated. When the primitive man took a rock and used it to open a coconut, he was using simple technology. Keeping the international space station running requires much more complex technologies.
